The Australia-Japan Innovation Fund (AJIF) is pleased to announce the successful recipients of the AJIF Research Grant Program 2025/26, following a highly competitive and rigorous selection process. 

Professor Kim Johnson and the La Trobe University research team are one of only four recipients for their project titled:

Future farming: Space technologies for food production in extreme climates

  • Team: Kim Johnson and the La Trobe University research team
  • Grant Amount: $109,091 AUD
  • Project Summary: Australian and Japanese researchers are adapting Space technologies for the Moon and Mars to create efficient, climate‑resilient food systems for Space and Earth. Combining digital plant modelling and closed‑loop farming, the team will design experiments for testing on the International Space Station.
